ArtAstronaut Endeavours

Endeavour, the space shuttle:
Last week, my favorite people from Tennessee came to visit.  We went around town to see the sites, ate delicious food, and thoroughly enjoyed our time together.  I was most excited about taking Te to see Endeavour, the space shuttle currently at the California Science Center.  It would make history: from individual legacies to the satellites that connect us.  The individual, high tech foam tiles that cover the space craft were each labeled, designed and cut specifically for its unique position.  Imagine, so much time and effort went into being able to explore space and experience space travel.  Ahh, the astronaut in me is so intrigued.

My first endeavor at an art project with Te, finger painting:

I made organic finger paint from scratch.  I used spinach, berries and coffee for light shades of green, pink and brown. With a diaper on and bathtub as her canvas, it didn't take long for her to sink her fingers, and eventually her knees, into it.

A sensory experience. The paint was a thick, cool gel. Coffee grounds added a rough quality.  She prodded, flicked and slid around in the paint.  Surprisingly, she didn't try to taste it.  Once finished painting, we patiently wiped up the paint.  She enjoyed clean up.  She would much rather splash and play in water.

Success.
