Meat on a Skewer

I miss Sate. Pork or Chicken. Chicken is eaten with a peanut
sauce. Pork with a dark, sweet sauce. In a month, I can eat it up!

Parking Tickets

Some things, I definitely didn't miss in Indonesia. I've moved into
the new house, but didn't know that I'm not allowed to park on the
street (what a concept) from 2-6 A.M. I even made sure that I was
gone before street sweeping hours. Now, that, would have been quite
the feat - 2 tickets in one morning! Well, at least I had a great
day baby-sitting/teaching the Blain kids!

After the Gala

If you ever want to take your friends to get a cupcake, frozen
yogurt, ice cream, or all sorts of flavorful foods, Larchmont has
it. So, feel free to stop by Landis while you're down there. Stop
by the general store and find my paintings. They will be showing
them for the next month. If the paintings sell, the store would like
to keep them available.

This afternoon, there was a good turnout and response. My art was
displayed next to the food table, always fun! And I did notice some
strangers thumbing through the various prints - even better! It's
such peaceful affirmation to see how opportunities come together
despite me.

Illuminate Story #428

The Passion of Literacy
I could see Olivia's passion for creativity in words and being able to unleash this potential in each child.  She gave each child their own writing book.  They would begin to answer questions in Indonesian.  Then, eagerly grabbing a dictionary, they would translate their answers into English!  They became so interested in learning English!  They wrote a little bit each day.

At the end of only a few days, Amel and Saras wanted to read what they had written for their parents!  A little shy, a little hesitant, but wanting the affirmation and a little encouragement - they were all so proud to be be able to share with their entire community!  Illiterate moms and grandmas were amazed that their precious children were able to read and write in 2 languages!
